Hi! I’m Tom Libertiny

Yellow Bird Flying is a home and garden journey to find affordable land and build a home on the property.  Our overall philosophy is the integration of home with garden.

We’re real people just like you are, so everything we do includes planning and budgeting.  All of the work done is by the two of us unless I’ve noted it (Example:  We’re going to subcontract pouring the concrete for our basement because I can’t seem to find a reasonably priced cement mixing truck).

I’ll show you our journey primarily based on the search for land, purchasing land, and designing and building our home. If you’re interested in the financial numbers behind the stories, you’re in the right place, too.

On the other hand, if you’re interested in the detailed gardening stories of our journey, I recommend heading on over to my wife’s website: Garden Moxie. In the grand scheme of things, she’s the Master Gardener, and I’m the ditch digger.

Want the behind-the-scenes details to help you achieve the same things we have? You’re invited to join my free newsletter.

The land was exactly as the listing real estate agent described:  Ten acres of beautiful hillside property out in the country.  And by “hillside,” she meant “a cliff.”  — Tom Libertiny

Yellow Bird Flying: what does it mean?

One summer day, a tiny yellow bird was in our backyard having a grand old time drinking and swimming in a bird bath we’d named “the swimming hole” when a mob of much larger birds descended on it and tried to kick it out.

The yellow bird absolutely was not taking anything that the mob was trying to deliver and proceeded to kick all of the larger bird’s butts out of our backyard.

It’s the yellow bird’s attitude that we embrace on this website: Anyone can achieve what we have, no matter your background and life experience. It just takes courage and persistence.
